How do I change my DNS if I want to keep my domain somewhere else? Print

If you're keeping your domain with a different registrar, you’ll need to update the DNS (Domain Name Servers) settings to point to our servers.

Note: DNS changes can take 24–48 hours to fully propagate across the internet. During this time, your site may appear up and down in different locations — this is normal as routers around the world update their cache.

Think of DNS like a postcode: without it, the internet doesn’t know where to send your domain traffic — just like the post office wouldn’t know where to deliver your mail without a postcode.

How to Change Your DNS

Every registrar has a slightly different interface, but the steps are usually the same:

  1. Log in to your domain registrar's control panel.
  2. Find your domain's DNS or Name Server settings.
  3. Replace the current name servers with the ones provided in your Hosting Chilli welcome email, such as:

ns1.hostingchilli.com
ns2.hostingchilli.com
ns3.hostingchilli.com
ns4.hostingchilli.com

Make sure to save the changes.
