Changing Ownership and Complaints for non .au domain names Print

  • 0

Ownership of non-.au domain names (such as .com, .net, .org, etc.) can be transferred freely between parties. If you wish to take over a domain:

  1. Contact the current registrant and agree on the terms of the transfer.
  2. Ensure the domain is unlocked and you have the authorization code (EPP code) from the current owner.
  3. Initiate the transfer through your registrar, following their verification and payment process.

Filing a Complaint

If you believe a non-.au domain name is:

  • Infringing on your trademark,
  • Being used in bad faith, or
  • Registered in violation of ICANN policies,

you can file a formal complaint through the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP).

To start the process:

  • Visit a dispute resolution provider such as WIPO or NAF.
  • Submit your complaint and supporting documentation.
  • A panel will review the case and issue a binding decision.

Important: UDRP disputes are typically expensive and non-refundable. Clients should be fully prepared, with strong legal grounds and documentation, before proceeding.

Please note that registrars do not intervene in disputes unless ordered by a legal authority or UDRP decision.
