Ownership of non-.au domain names (such as .com, .net, .org, etc.) can be transferred freely between parties. If you wish to take over a domain:
- Contact the current registrant and agree on the terms of the transfer.
- Ensure the domain is unlocked and you have the authorization code (EPP code) from the current owner.
- Initiate the transfer through your registrar, following their verification and payment process.
Filing a Complaint
If you believe a non-.au domain name is:
- Infringing on your trademark,
- Being used in bad faith, or
- Registered in violation of ICANN policies,
you can file a formal complaint through the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP).
To start the process:
- Visit a dispute resolution provider such as WIPO or NAF.
- Submit your complaint and supporting documentation.
- A panel will review the case and issue a binding decision.
Important: UDRP disputes are typically expensive and non-refundable. Clients should be fully prepared, with strong legal grounds and documentation, before proceeding.
Please note that registrars do not intervene in disputes unless ordered by a legal authority or UDRP decision.
