My domain expired and now it's registered by someone else. How do I get my domain name back? Print

If your domain expired and was deleted from the registry, it became available for anyone to register on a first-come, first-served basis. Once this happens, you no longer hold any rights to the domain name, and unfortunately, you cannot file a domain dispute, as those are only applicable in cases where domains were fraudulently transferred—not when a domain has expired and was lawfully re-registered.

What Are Your Options?

Contact the Current Registrant
You can try reaching out to the new domain owner to see if they’re willing to sell it. Many registrants purchase domains without immediate use and may be open to negotiating a price.

Register a Similar Name
Consider an alternative domain:

  • Add a word (e.g., mynameonline.com, mynamehq.com)
  • Use a different extension (e.g., .biz, .net, .info, .co, etc.)

Trademark Owners
If you hold a registered trademark that matches the domain name, and you believe the domain was registered in bad faith, you may consider filing a UDRP (Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy) claim. This is a formal process that allows trademark holders to dispute domain ownership under certain conditions.
