Regularly backing up your website’s database is essential to protect your data from accidental loss, corruption, or server issues. The cPanel Backup Tool makes it easy to download a backup of your database anytime.

Follow the steps below to back up your MySQL or MariaDB database using cPanel.

Steps to Back Up Your Database

  • Step 1: Log in to your cPanel.
  • Step 2: Scroll down to the Files section and click on Backup.
  • Step 3: Under the Download a MySQL Database Backup section, you will see a list of your databases.
  • Step 4: Click the name of the database you wish to back up. This will begin downloading a .sql.gz file of your selected database to your computer.

Tip: Save your backup in a safe location and label it with the date for easy tracking.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • This backup method creates a manual backup of your database.
  • It does not include your website files—only your database.
  • For a full backup of your site (files + database), use the Full Backup option in the same cPanel Backup section.

Want to Restore a Backup?

If you ever need to restore your database from a backup, go to Backup > Restore a MySQL Database or use phpMyAdmin for more control.
