If you’ve backed up your Home Directory using the Backup Wizard or manually, you can easily restore it to recover your website files, email data, and more.

What’s in a Home Directory Backup?

The Home Directory backup includes:

  • Website files (public_html)
  • Email accounts and data
  • Configuration files
  • Other folders in your home directory (except databases)

Steps to Restore Your Home Directory Backup:

Step 1: Log in to your cPanel account.
Step 2: Scroll down to the Files section and click on Backup Wizard.
Step 3: Click the Restore button.
Step 4: Select Home Directory under "Select Restore Type".
Step 5: Click Choose File, then browse and select the .tar.gz backup file from your computer.
Step 6: Click Upload.

cPanel will now begin restoring the files in the archive to their original locations.

Important Notes:

  • The restoration process overwrites existing files with those in your backup.
  • Ensure you are uploading a Home Directory backup (not a Full Backup).
  • This process does not restore databases — you’ll need to restore those separately.
