If you wish to transfer your domain registration to another registrar, please review the following important information:
Administration Fee
We charge a $10 administration fee for transferring a domain away from Hosting Chilli.
Preparing Your Domain for Transfer
To successfully initiate a domain transfer, you must:
Unlock your domain by setting the domain status to "OK" and removing the clientTransferProhibited status (also known as "registrar lock").
Verify WHOIS information for both the Registrant and Administrative contacts. Make sure all details—especially email addresses—are current and valid.
Note: Unlocking your domain does not initiate the transfer. It simply enables the transfer by setting the status to ACTIVE.
You can check your domain’s status using a WHOIS lookup at:
https://hostingchilli.com/u/index.php
EPP/Authorization Codes
If your domain is an EPP domain (e.g., .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us, .cn, .in, etc.), you may not see a registrar lock. However, you will need an EPP/authorization key to complete the transfer.
Contact us to request this key.
Important Notes & Restrictions
60-Day Rule
Your domain must be at least 60 days old before it can be transferred to a new registrar.
Post-Transfer Lock
After a successful registrar transfer, the domain cannot be transferred again for another 60 days as per ICANN’s Transfer Policy.
Renewal Timing Warning
If you renew your domain and then transfer it within 45 days, the extra renewal year may not carry over to the new registrar. This is a registry-level restriction and not controlled by Hosting Chilli or any registrar.
Initiating the Transfer
Once your domain is unlocked and/or you’ve obtained the EPP key, you must submit the transfer request through your new registrar.
No further action is required on your part or ours.
DNS & Nameservers
Transferring your domain to another registrar is not the same as changing nameservers or pointing your domain to a new host.
If you're simply updating where your website is hosted, refer to our DNS & Nameservers section for help configuring DNS settings.
Important: If your domain is using Hosting Chilli's DNS and you transfer it away, you will need to purchase DNS hosting elsewhere. Once the domain is marked as "transferred away" in our system, it will no longer resolve using our nameservers.
