How do I get a name back that is in the Redemption Period or Pending Delete status? Print

You must contact the previous registrar to buy back a domain in the Redemption Period.  One cannot recover .com/.net domains in the "Pending Delete" status. Following is the process if the domain was registered through Hosting Chilli.:

Redemption Period Process

  • Once deleted from our database, it falls into the 30-day holding status called Redemption Period at VeriSign (called Pending Delete at PIR.org).
  • Should you want to retrieve the domain during Redemption, there is a fee to you plus the cost of the renewal.
  • Only the previous registrant has the right to request the domain back.

If you wish to retrieve a .com or .net domain during Redemption from your account

  • Contact us through our Support Area and request this domain name by opening a new support ticket.
  • We will provide you with a payment link though the Client Area, this can be retrieved by login to the client area. The invoice should be there. Choose your Method of Payment then proceed through checkout and purchase.
  • There are no refunds on redemptions.
  • There are two stages of Redemption. After your domains expire, you may find them under Extended Redemption Grace Period, or Redemption Grace Period. Prices vary according to account and currently range from $325 AUD per domain name plus renewal, depending upon status. Prices may change at any time.  For details about how these status codes differ please contact us.

If you wish to submit a request to retrieve a domain during Redemption that is not in your account or is not .com or .net (or ccTLD for example):

  • Open a support ticket
  • Your "subject" should be: Redemption Recovery of Domain.
  • In the text, ask if the domain is available for redemption.  Depending on the registrar credential and the TLD, we may be able to process this for you.  Please authorise the current $325 AUD charge plus the renewal fee if the domain is available for manual redemption by technical support personnel. Include your login name and domain name. It may take up to 5 days to retrieve a domain and have it become active.

If you are not the previous registrant, you need to wait until the domain is dropped by the registry and made available to anyone for registration.  You can "backorder" this domain by contacting us.
